The Medical and Health Sciences Committee of the Hungarian Rectors’ Conference (MRK) works on the development and renewal of medical, dental, pharmaceutical, and health sciences education, as well as the coordination of various educational fields. In recent years, the committee has, among other things, reviewed the minimum training requirements for general nurses, dentists, pharmacists, and midwives, as well as the competency framework for higher education in healthcare professions, and examined opportunities for cooperation between foreign and Hungarian universities.
One of the key pillars of the committee’s work is strengthening training systems and expanding domestic and international professional networks.
- "The new challenges of a rapidly changing world necessitate a renewal of the content and structure of medical and health sciences education, and we must work together on this. I am convinced that these new challenges—particularly internationalization and the development of clinical training sites—are becoming increasingly important. An important goal is to incorporate international best practices into the domestic training system and to expand training partnerships, which can contribute to further strengthening the quality and competitiveness of medical education in Hungary. Our goal is to create a training environment that builds on domestic professional traditions while remaining open to international cooperation,” László Mátyus, dean of the Faculty of General Medicine at the University of Debrecen, told hirek.unideb.hu.
László Mátyus became co-chair and later chair of the Committee on Medical and Health Sciences. He was recently reappointed to the position of chair.
- "For me, one of the greatest values is that, as chair, I have the opportunity to maintain close professional ties with colleagues responsible for medical and health sciences education. Maintaining constant contact within the committee’s work facilitates the exchange of experiences, strengthens cooperation, and contributes to a shared professional mindset,” the professor added.
The Hungarian Rectors’ Conference, which represents the entire Hungarian higher education system, currently has 21 committees.
